Rather than metaphorically draw pictures in the reader’s mind, the words themselves become the images which simultaneously supports and challenges the author’s proposition that images are gradually replacing the written word in everyday life. To navigate this visual poem, it’s necessary to slow down and absorb each word’s role in the overall piece. Displayed on Instagram, if a user scrolls and views only a single window, it will no longer be a piece of the larger image. Rather, it will be a series of words shifting off the edges of the window. This reveals, even with the shifting and overlapping role words and images play in society, there’s always a final balance which is reflected at the conclusion when the text comes to settle in a centered, deliberate conventional format.
